We run regular training days for teachers embarking on or considering the use of handhelds in their teaching practice:
How long is it?
This is a 1 day introductory course, starting with a presentation over coffee
at 9:30 am and finishing at 4:00 pm. We’ll also provide a nice lunch
to keep you energised!
Where will it take place?
In our training suite overlooking Victoria dock in London’s docklands,
a few minutes walk from the DLR.
Who is it for?
Primary and secondary teachers with little or no experience of working with
handheld devices in the classroom.
What equipment will we use?
During the day you will be working with a standard Pocket PC, (don’t
worry if your school uses different technology, the activities have been carefully
structured so that the experiences can be transferred to other models and types
of handheld).
What will I learn?
We will start from the very beginning with tips and advice on the device itself
and how to control, use and maintain it in the context of a busy classroom.
We will introduce you to a suite of handheld software tools with examples of how these might help to support a range of curriculum activities.
Setting up, monitoring, and managing lots of devices can be a challenge and we will show you how you can use management software like RedHalo to keep everything running smoothly.
Once you are confident with the basics we will work on some practical activities that have been designed to provide starting points for handheld tasks that you can modify and use with your pupils when you are back in school.
We will finish with a discussion about the potential of handheld to support and enhance teaching and learning.
