Congratulations go to Dave Whyley who, this Wednesday 10th September, will be rewarded and recognised for his huge contribution to the field of mobile learning. David will be awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Technology by Wolverhampton University.
The Honorary degree will be presented at the awards ceremony at the Grand Theatre by The Lord Paul of Marylebone in recognition of David’s significant and distinguished eminence in the field of Mobile learning.
David Whyley is Black Country born and bred and has worked as a teacher and educationalist in the City of Wolverhampton for over 30 years. He is an Ex- Primary Headteacher, who now, as part of the e-Services team, has the role of Headteacher Consultant - Learning Technologies for the City of Wolverhampton. David’s expertise has been used by most of the major National educational agencies, and he has contributed to the Primary National Strategy Leadership team Toolkit and a number of the NCSL/BECTA on line self evaluation tools. He is an ICT Mark Lead assessor and an accredited National College for School Leadership facilitator. David has specialised in developing new ways of teaching and learning, exploiting both broadband and mobile technologies. As a lead member of the award winning innovative Wolverhampton “
Learning2Go” mobile learning initiative, he has presented the main findings of the project both nationally and internationally.
Learning2Go harnesses enthusiasm for mobile technologies by enabling pupils to use handheld computers in their learning, at any time and anywhere. The project promotes a personalised learning experience, in which the learner is responsible for managing their own mobile handheld computer and helping to shape their own learning. Learning2Go is the largest mobile learning project in the schools sector in the UK.
It is this expertise and experience which is being honored by Wolverhampton University with this Doctorate. David is unlikely to be phased by another award ceremony, as part of the Learning2Go team David was awarded the BECTA 2006 ICT in Practice award for Collaboration, and more recently the inaugural Management Today Award for Mobile Working.
Says David:
I am really proud to receive this honorary Doctor of Technology award from Wolverhampton University. It is local recognition of what is being achieved by learners, teachers and LA officers in the field of learning with technology. It is a true team approach; however, I am pleased that my own long term contribution has been recognised.
