British Education Communicatios technology Agency's ANNUAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2006

Posted on behalf of colleagues at Becta .

Geoff Stead is doing a panel session as is Doug Brown of DfES.

Becta’s sixth annual Research Conference will take place at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham on Monday 6 November 2006.

The event will provide a platform for the educational ICT research community to share their work on e-strategy strands with policy makers and colleagues from education and industry, in order to continue ongoing dialogue and to promote evidence informed debate on future research.

The conference will:

Enable educational practitioners, policy makers and commercial companies to work in collaboration with researchers in setting a shared research agenda that will lead to a reduction in the level of segregated development and research – a key issue raised at the 2005 Research Conference.
Raise awareness of the importance of high quality independent research and the value that the DFES Technology Group has placed on research evidence.
Investigate how research will support implementation of the e-strategy
Discuss ways in which research informs policy decisions.

Attendance at the event is free of charge and delegates from the following audience groups are invited to attend:

Educational researchers
Strategic decision makers in schools and LAs
Commercial producers of ICT materials
Policy makers

The conference programme is available on the Events area of the Becta web site and delegates can book places at: www.becta.org.uk/events/researchconference

19  General Area / News & Events / VLEs: pedagogy and implementation - the theory and practice of learning platform on: June 16, 2006, 02:00:14 PM
Hi all

just after handheld but you can participate from the comfort of your office or your handheld !! Geoff Minshull and is partner Judith Mole are working with on a great project involving a British Sign language glossary for ICT and on the web . But they also run online conferences . so yes its an unashamed plug but its a great programme.

++++++++++++++++++++
Direct Learn is well known for running online conferences for people working in all sectors of education, from schools through to universities.
Online conferences, run over the internet, have some major advantages over face to face conferences. Not only are they more convenient and cheaper, but the quality of debate and level of participation is usually much higher than in a physical conference.

This latest conference focuses on the use of virtual learning environments (VLEs) and other types of learning platform in education. These are software tools which are used to deliver courses online, usually complementing conventional classroom work, and so providing a blended learning approach. A good VLE is more than just content delivery though - it also enhances communications between learners and staff, and provides tools to promote co-operative working. It changes the whole nature of the learning experience.

The conference has a very wide range of presenters, from higher and further education, adult and community learning, and schools. Key note presenters are Martin Dougiamas, creator of Moodle, and James Clay, Director of the Western Colleges Consortium.  Other sessions cover topics such as accessibility and VLEs, cultural change within organisations, implementing institutional VLEs, content creation tools, and much more. As well as workshop sessions, there are also various "Ask the Expert" sessions, with presenters from CETIS, Becta, adult and community learning, etc.

The conference presentations will be available to delegates from the 9th October, for reading and viewing; and the conference proceedings will be available for viewing for a month after the 19th, for people to catch up and reflect on the event.

Early bird registration is £55. For a full programme, and more information on booking, see:

There is a specific “theme” which can be applied to moodle to make it more easily viewed on a PDA.

30  Technology matters / Phones and PDAs / DotPocket software displaying you Pocket PC screen via a laptop and projector on: December 04, 2005, 10:04:59 PM
Hi all

Now I haven't yet bought a Margi presenter to plug into my pocket PC. But Dave Whyley of learning2GO put me onto dotpocket software. It allows you show your pocket PC screen via a alptop linked to a projector and to manipulate your pocket PC using the screen ,keyboard and mouse of your PC.

I know the purists might shout me down but its great tool to show at presentations etc pocket PC content. Its about 30$ but has 30 day trial.

Anybody know any other products like this.
