Hi,

It appears that I'm going to have to write a few help sheets with screen captures for some workshops I'm running. So, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some software for a PC that runs an emulator (or the like) of a pocket PC, and will allow me to capture screen grabs.

The normal caveats apply, it needs to be very easy to use and preferably free  Smiley

Cheers

Hey Andy

I did a bit of googling on your behalf and came up with:

http://www.louterrailloune.com/magicss.html - free
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=13939 - US$10 Vidya Pocket Screen Capture
http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/pocketpc/CECapture-2002-1-25-ce-pocketpc.html - free
http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/pocketpc/graphics-screencapture-datesort-1.html - loads here!

Let us know if any of them are any good Smiley

Microsoft has a free "toy" on their power toys page called remote display (remotedsp.exe)

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/wce/downloads/ppctoys.mspx

It allows you to display and control the PocketPC from a desktop or laptop. Great for live training. Also great for screen-capture.

Note that if you use <ALT>-<PRINT SCREEN> to capture the PPC screeen as diplayed on the PC, you'll get the XP Windows border of the PPC display as well. What I do is paste the copied screen into a new page in Microsoft PhotoEditor. The new page is set up as 247 pixels wide and 365 pixels high. Then you can use Image | Crop and set the Crop Margins as follows:

L 4    T 42
R 243    B 361

The result is exactly the 240 X 320 PPC screen

Wow - thanks to Graham and Swofford. You guys do make life a little easier Cheesy

In the end I decided to spend US$10 and buy Vidya Pocket Screen Capture 1.0.8 - http://www.vidyasmart.com/

It is very simple, quite versatile (especially as I'm thinking of creating some animations / movies). If people are interested in the settings I've chosen etc., the see http://www.mobile-learning.blog-city.com/pocket_pc__screen_capture_software.htm

Thanks

is it just my perception or is PocketPC software much more expensive than Palm software?

(btw is anyone interested in doing some testing of a simple text editor for Smartphones?)
