Following the
recent announcement that Fujitsu Siemens Computers would be leaving the handheld market at the end of this year I received this statement with regards to their ongoing commitment to the education sector and particularly their
EDA series devices:
FUJITSU SIEMENS COMPUTERS REMAINS COMMITTED TO THE EDUCATION MARKET
In light of the recent news around Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ decision to exit the handheld business at the end of 2007, we wish to confirm Fujitsu Siemens remains committed to delivering technology products that fulfil the needs of the educational marketplace.
Fujitsu Siemens will continue rolling out its EDA handheld computer, the device that has been designed specifically with the education sector in mind with input from leading educational practitioners in the field of mobile learning. Fujitsu Siemens will keep shipping the current EDA product through Q1 of 2008 and beyond, and we are confident that the device will be used in schools for several years to come.
Fujitsu Siemens continues to evaluate the education market and we aim to broaden our portfolio with new products that will address the education market and which will include in time a new version of the EDA.
In addition to the EDA, we fully expect to deliver further technological developments to the education sector including Ultra-Mobile PCs (UMPCs). Fujitsu Siemens is currently exploring the commercial functionality and suitability of such devices and will bring them to the market, as and when is appropriate.
phew!
