Amen jont.  This holds true for any technology use in the classroom and at any level.  Too often it is a "digital rerun" but nothing new.

In some institutions  I reckon a "parchment to powerpoint" converter could be quite a big seller.

Some materials are likethe early cd's, when the material was first put on CD it was the stuff that had been limited to work okay on vinyl. Only with later re-mastering for the new medium did extra subtleties appear from the original work become audible. Then further on when things were recorded for the new  medium they got even better. Unfortunately some of the materials in VLEs look like they probably started out on wax cylinders....

The topic for discussion starting this week (commencing 24/01/05) has been proposed by John Traxler from the Centre for Learning and Teaching at the University of Wolverhampton, UK.

"What's preventing small-scale, short-term mobile learning projects using PDAs or smartphones in schools, colleges and universities becoming large-scale, long term mainstream contributions to teaching and learning?"
