Burnt Oak Junior School are one of the schools competing in this years Learners Y Factor with Jason Bradbury that is shaping up to be an extremely exciting and fun-packed occasion where you'll need to get your seat early as it'll be standing room only Smiley

The Learners Y Factor is part of the FREE to attend Handheld Learning Festival!

Leon Cych will also be chairing the Social Media for Learningsession which is part of the Handheld Learning Conference.

I'm intrigued by this - thanks, Leon - the interface seems to be key. Both the user interface (accessible to 8 yr olds) and the hardware (all 32 online simulataneously). Are iPod Touch's the way forward in schools? Are there any key teaching and learning functions they lack say compared to a PDA or iPhone?

I'd suggest the most obvious thing the iPod touch lack's compared to an iPhone is the camera and video editing software.

Whilst the new iPod nano's have a camera they have neither the built-in editing software nor the wi-fi to immediately share material hence they remain tethered to a larger computer for syncing which rather reminds me of Pocket PC's.

The Nintendo DSi has a built-in camera and a lot of interesting applications. Likewise the Sony PSP has an inexpensive camera so these are also candidates for the classroom.

Most Apple pundits expect a camera based iPod touch to be released during 2010 so that might certainly prove irresistible to many schools.

A big question is when will children simply be able to bring their own tools to school?
