Title: Ray Kurzweil - Closing Keynote at Handheld Learning 2009
Post by: Graham on October 16, 2009, 09:51:40 AM
We were honoured to have renowned inventor & futurist, Ray Kurzweil (http://www.handheldlearning2009.com/handheld-learning-conference-and-exhibition/confirmed-speakers/908-confirmed-speakers/197-ray-kurzweil), bring our exhausting, provocative, polarising, challenging and thought-provoking 3 days to a close.

Ray gave us a superb and realistic vision of what we can expect to see during the period that young learners joining the education system today can expect by the time they leave.

What impact will these predictions, if correct, have on future policy for learning and teaching practice?

Make yourself a nice cup of (non-conference) coffee, sit back and take this ride into the near future and then add your thoughts to this thread.

(apologies for audio quality and missing audio from the first 90 secs of Ray - this was in error by our production team and we're hoping that we have a back up that will replace this clip soon)

Listening to the talk and about 20 mins in I felt compelled to post.

"Our competitors... have missed the window of opportunity as we've had this device for a couple of years now" Ray Kurzweil I would like to correct you.  The KNFB reader was still using a PDA and Digital Camera when we debuted Capturatalk Version 1 running on a mobile phone in 2006.

I do think that you are a visionary but there is a history of you bringing cutting edge products to market only to be overtaken by other players who develop the idea more thoroughly and make the technology affordable.
