Post by: Graham on October 17, 2008, 08:44:33 AM
There appears to be an awful lot of good information, reflection, pictures and videos about various sessions from this years Handheld Learning Conference.

For latest hits on Google Blog Search see here (http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?q=handheld+learning&btnG=Search+Blogs)

Please help us and the rest of the community by posting any links you find (including your own) in this thread.

Thanks!

EDIT: I was just composing this when Graham posted my video, thanks Graham...

I really enjoyed the conference and got a lot out of it.

Only real downside for me was there was too much I wanted to see and hear and didn't get to everything I wanted to.

Nice to see the videos from HHL already up on Blip.tv

http://handheldlearning.blip.tv/ (http://handheldlearning.blip.tv/)

Means I can catch David's closing Keynote which I missed as I booked my train too early after misreading the programme.

Steve's reflective post was good.

Both this year and last year we exhibited at the conference. The most contenting this about this years conference was the complete acceptance of the notion of mobile learning. Last year I felt I had to justify the very concept of digital mobility, explaining what is was, the implications for teaching and learning etc. etc.
This year it was refreshing to hear people asking what now? where do we go? what other opportuntites can we present learners? and also great to hear about the innovative practice across the country. Obviously things like the conference are making a huge difference!
Good times indeed!

Hi all
My first HHL conference was a thoroughly enjoyable experience if a little overwhelming in terms of really good ideas and ways forward. The tone was spot on and I left after the 3 days with lots to sort out, get down on paper and begin to put a coherent plan together for HoF / HoDs. Networking opportunities were great as was the beer from the pub in Whitecross Street.

Many thanks to all the presenters, practitioners and organisers

Graham, this was for me an excellent experience and one worth travelling all those hours there and back to enjoy. My reflections on the conference are in my blog including some photos at http://steve-wheeler.blogspot.com

Thanks again for organising a great event!

Thoroughly enjoyed HHL this year - again! Enjoy it every year (cheers Graham!:) ) Some of my thoughts went through twitter during the week, but will post some stuff soon on my blog.

Didn't get to present my presentation but will upload the slides. Being on the panel for the discussion on Virtual Worlds was great - only sorry that we had to cut it short as we were just getting going! ;D

Did anyone get to record any of that? I was so nervous I forgot to turn on my audio recorder  :-[

Hi All

Great conference Graham and co. I got challenged and new food for thought, always happy with that mix!

OK I've sliced and diced and sifted through my mountain of notes from the great week of mobile learning at MLearn and HHL 08. and finally written it up (http://anywherelearning.blogspot.com/2008/10/m-learn-and-handheld-learning-2008.html).  I've been trying to pick out some main themes and I think things like:

  • Maturing of the field: i.e. we are start to seeing an assumption that these devices are part of the educational landscape rather than a 'new quirky idea.
  • Digital lifestyle management i.e. its not enough to 'power down' or go silent we all need skills about ho to manage the technology and its cultural impact
  • Mobility is increasingly important

Just a summary of some thoughts from the post.

Cheers

Stu

Apologies for any duplication but didn't want to leave people out. Please feel very welcome to add to this list so that we can maintain a good record. The original conference site (http://www.handheldlearning2008.com) is now being converted into the digital proceedings of the event and has a link to this thread as part of the "Reflections" section.

There's a variety of independent video's captured from the conference here (http://www.handheldlearning.co.uk/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,58/topic,1467.0)

I also found a terrific set of video interviews conducted by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, New York (www.cooneycenter.org (http://www.cooneycenter.org)) on YouTube:
