4  For learners and educators / Teaching for mobile learners / Re: UMPC Use in and out of the classroom on: June 18, 2007, 10:07:24 PM
I have just taken delivery of a large quanity of Q1's.
They are the education spec with Intel Processor and 2 batteries. One battery is the extended life battery.
I ran this all day today. Background light set at 50%. I put the battery into standby between classes as required. The Q1 started at 8am and died at 5pm on the extended battery.
My plan is to push the loading on this machine in various circumstances to see how performs.
I am treating this run through as the baseline. The minimum that I would accept as useable.
As far as I am concerned it is pretty good battery life.

Hi
we are planning to give every pupil one of the Q1b's in June.
We have been evaluating 3 Q1a's for the last 3 month's
Our findings are:
- Battery life (As already said) is bad but te Q1b's are promised (By Samsung) to be much better.
- some of the initial drivers are unstable but these are being updated.
- These are better has replacements for handouts so that pupils add their own notes on top of the existing notes.
- If you want pupils to create their own full essays then have access to USB Keyboards and Mice. Even better if they can plug in a full monitor.
- The devices work best with wireless environment with all the materials easily accessable via a class server
- The vioce recognition works very well with these devices and the pupils love it
- text recognition encourages the pupils to write neater so it can be recognised
