Title: Should we take advertising on this site? Post by: Graham on January 25, 2008, 01:40:48 PM From time to time we are asked whether we would consider taking banner adverts on the site from relevant suppliers wishing to reach our community and historically we have done very little of this.
We are now considering increasing the editorial output of the article section as well as the Handheld Learning TV section with real case studies about the innovative work that is being carried out by practitioners and learners in this field as well as opinion pieces intended to provoke thought and debate. We're also in the process of updating the technology behind the site, some of you might already have noticed some improvements, with a major facelift planned in the coming months. So for 4 years, supported by other activities such as our conference and consulting activities, the site has been free to access as well as virtually advert-free, but to support the development of the site and maintain the freeness we are looking at ways to support new activities that will provide more value to our membership and casual readers. So the question is, assuming we don't go overboard, would people here mind if we started taking ad's? ??? Title: Re: Should we take advertising on this site? Post by: Michael Wilkinson on January 25, 2008, 06:14:10 PM Cant see any problem with this - if it supports a growing community of practice then why not - I suppose the only difficuluty is the perception that Handheld Learning endorses certain products and services
Title: Re: Should we take advertising on this site? Post by: jont on January 27, 2008, 11:42:11 AM I could see problems if the site was "sponsored", by for example, Microsoft.....
But just a few adverts would seem ok, maybe vary the advertisers each month/week. Title: Re: Should we take advertising on this site? Post by: stu_mob on January 28, 2008, 01:31:04 PM I think it needs to be very carefully done. If the adverts are clear and obvious I see no problem and as far I as I can tell there has been advertising before e.g. RedHalo?
The real problem probably comes when advertisers are members of the forum. Perhaps they need to be clearly identified in their title as such? |
