Total recall boosts PDA writing
The idea of remembering word patterns and connecting the dots might not sound like an easy way to write an e-mail.
But IBM researchers are betting that tracing letters on a touch screen will become the way to write on a handheld device like a PDA or mobile phone.
They have developed software that works by recognising the patterns of words.

What is Shorthand-Aided Rapid Keyboarding?
Shorthand Aided Rapid Keyboarding (SHARK) is an advanced pen-based text input method for mobile devices. It combines novel pattern recognition technology with a stylus keyboard. A new user may trace the letters on the keyboard to enter a word. Over time one may remember some or parts of the patterns and speed up the text writing. A video demo is available.

What do you think about this? (Worth a look at the demo video on the IBM site.) I wonder if learning a new keyboard layout will be no better than learnng Graffiti, but intriguing anyway!

Ed has some interesting ideas on how to speed up text entry using the PDa as it is...

It would be interesting to hear if anyone does use their PDA in this way. I am a "write and wait and see the character user"
