Hello Everyone,
Thank you to Graham for creating this post.
I am actively seeking participants for case studies on the effectiveness of Capturatalk. I have a number of proposals for case studies ongoing currently but I'm eager to attract more.
If you have a compatible Windows mobile device please go and download our 30 day trial version from
www.Capturatalk.com/download.asp and let me know what you think.
Devices that have been tested and are fully supported are as follows:
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch Diamond
HTC Touch Cruise
HTC TyTN II (Kaiser)
HTC TyTN I (Hermes)
Samsung Omnia
HP IPAQ 614c
Sony Experia X1
Toshiba Portege G810
Other Windows Mobile Professional Devices will operate with CapturaTalk so long as these devices meet the following criteria:
2 Megapixel Camera or higher preferably with Macro or Auto Focus modes
65MB of storage (29.5MB for CAB file, 35MB for the install)
Windows Mobile 5.0 or above
Touchscreen
All feedback is welcome (even the stuff that you don't like about the program) as we are very keen to develop a product that is both effective and very easy to use.
We do intend to create versions for other platforms including the iPhone, I must admit that I had not considered the PSP or DSI as potential platforms but would be interested in finding out more and welcome anyone that wants to contact me about this.
I am dictating this post and you will get reasonable results if you use a Windows Mobile device as a voice recorder and transcribe it with Dragon, that is not to say you will get the same level of accuracy as dictating directly onto a PC. If you want advice on how to setup recordings in the right format and to get them working with Dragon on your PC drop me a line.
I have been working on speech recognition on PCs for nearly 8 years now and it is my long-term goal to move this technology onto mobile devices. Nuance who own Dragon and many of the other speech recognition technologies on the market today probably own IP to technologies that could deliver speech recognition on mobile devices.
Indeed I have seen a demonstration of someone dictating a text message which is then transcribed by a remote server which sends back the text. The speed at which this happened was remarkable. However, I still have an issue with this as it requires sending data which is potentially expensive if you are doing it over a mobile phone network rather than the WiFi. In theory with the specifications of mobile devices on the market today it should be possible to run a cutdown version of something like Dragon on a mobile device. Certainly if you look at the new Toshiba phones due out later this year and devices running the new QUALCOMM chips there is certainly enough processing power to run this native to the device.
The more people that express interest in creating a product like this the greater the likelihood of Nuance releasing an SDK. So once again, anyone that is interested in pursuing this please contact me as I am in regular correspondence with Nuance and the more voices I add to my own the greater the likelihood of success.
