Schoolbuk accounts can only be created by registered schools for teachers and students and each school is a unique walled garden. It does not have an open sign-up and all data is hosted in the UK. Student information is only visible to students and teachers from their own school and only once they have logged in We are teachers trying to create a solution from the grass roots rather than being told by government what we need in Education. Please feel free to give us feedback If you are interested email me on jo@schoolbuk.com Title: Re: Social Learning Environment Post by: jo.verrier on February 06, 2008, 09:25:31 AM With schoolbuk we've tried to keep things as simple as possible. We looked at using off-the-shelf stuff like moodle in our school a year or so ago and found that with things like needing to enroll students onto courses before they could access them was cumbersome.
we wanted something where we could just publish our materials quickly without having to worry about whether kids could access it in the lesson. It started off with just a very simple blog, teachers had a space where they could post links to websites that students might find useful, and they could do it in a few seconds during a lesson if the need arose. as teachers used it, they found that they wanted space for more permanent items, so the blog evolved into a more sophisticated system of workbooks which also gave students a place to make e-portfolios. The main aim is to make content creation as simple as we possibly can so that anyone can access it and produce basic pages even without training. This was something we found difficult with some of the offerings that we looked at. We certainly didn't look at everything on offer, but because we had the resources to create our own, we quickly found that we got exactly what we wanted rather than having to make something else fit Elements are still under development and we are looking at changing the 'inbox' to a planner and including a Individual Learning Plan, and some kind of markbook.
