Well kind of...... 2 school kids who used handhelds to do something 300 scientisits couldn't...basically a school trip visited the Natural History Museums wildlife garden to ID/record ladybirds & woodlice using WildKey software on handhelds....one ladybird couln't be identified and it turns out that it has only been recorded twice before in the UK...so with the power of handhelds two novices have discovered soemthing 300 experts missed! (its now in the NHM collection as they didn't have a specimen)...see attached newspaper clipping (also have video but not allowed to show)

Er....so did they kill one of the rarest insects in England to ensure it got to the museum? Or was it already laid on its back with its feet in the air? With the right device (or available camera) they could have taken a photo I suppose! Nice software tho!
