Hi there,

I have recently been assigned the task of researching how PDA's could be used in our school. I am to look at the following and would appeciate some help:

1 - Use of PDA's by management
2 - Use of PDA's by teachers
3 - Use of PDA's by pupils

I know that a response to this could be a dissertation-style report, but all i am looking for is a brief outline on the above 3 items. Much appreciated Thanks.

Umar

PS If there are any secondary schools who are using PDA's and as best practice, could you please leave some details so that i can get in touch with you. Thanks again.

BECTA published a report within the last couple of years - this could be a useful starting point

Hi Umar

and welcome to the Forum!

I'm pleased that you've posted your questions here because this is exactly why we have this Forum so that members can share information and build up on the resource, so I'm hoping that members who already have experience using handhelds in learning environments will come forward in response Smiley

The BECTA report that cardav mentioned can be found in the Links section (in the Main Menu on the left) or directly via:

Hello...I work for a company called WildKey (www.wildkey.co.uk) who are one of the first to actually develop some software that utilises the benefits of PDAs.  WildKey contains user-friendly identification keys that enable pupils to identify and record species..they can then map their results in the classroom (we currently have a butterfly key under eLC and will shortly be producing a rocky shore key)

Hi Umar

Another commercial post I'm afraid. My company offers a service that allows you to create your own online, interactive materials to be accessed on PDAs. It's web-based, so available to any device with a browser. Students enter their responses, which are recorded, and they or their teachers can review the results later from any internet-connected computer. Check it out at http://www.streetaccess.co.uk/SA/pages/schools.html.

Good luck!

The guy who wrote it tells me ;-) that the Becta booklet pays attention to each of your three headings umarfarooqali but it's a bit light on the learning end of things.

My latest report on the Wolverhampton project looks at this in much more detail here:
http://wgfl.wolverhampton.gov.uk/PDASite/index.html

This is a large file on an apparently slow server so can be a problem to download even over a broadband connection. If you have trouble send me a message and I'll email a lighter version to you.

Good luck

David, is it possible for you to outline the pages in that document where there is direct evidence for the impact of mobile devices on attainment.  I read as much as I could but would appreciate a pointer.
